Haiti

On Tuesday, 12 January 2010, shortly before 5p.m., a powerful magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck about 26km west of Port Au Prince, Haiti’s capital. The people in Haiti, whose country was ravaged by hurricanes last year, once again find themselves helpless in the face of yet another devastating onslaught from Mother Nature. Many buildings were destroyed, including homes, hospitals, schools, and other educational institutions. Over 150 000 lives are lost and counting….

Described as the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, over 80% of Haiti’s population live on less than $2 a day. Understandably, at present, the main focus of attention is on emergency relief. However, DROP as an organization, in line with its mission, is preparing to contribute to the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase. For a nation with over 60% of its population under the age of 24, it is imperative to get schools up and running as soon as possible, so that we can get the youth back into school, and off the streets.

To this end, DROP has chosen to focus its efforts on education. We invite you to partner with us to rebuild and equip schools for our sisters and brothers, and sons and daughters in Haiti. You can make your donation by clicking on one of the currencies below
